Oh, Say Can You See!
We loved the Olympics!! The Summer Olympics are our FAVORITE. Being the British lov'in people that we are...having them in London made it extra awesome. We've been so caught up in watching the coverage these last two weeks we're not sure what we are going to do with ourselves now that they are over. I get so darn sentimental when they come to a close. {I always have} and Kyleigh takes after her mother. I even shed a tear or two as the Olympic flame was extinguished {don't laugh} and Kyleigh declared herself dead and that she would be resurrected in Rio in four years. {hilarious}. However, I will say that our
1 D boys performing in the closing ceremonies {how cool is that?} helped our mood tremendously.
We had a TOP 5 athletes to watch list...seriously how could we not?
USA's Ryan Lochte. Um... Hello! Don't need to explain why he made our list. Other than maybe he flips tires as part of his training. {850 lb ones at that.} His golden win in the 400 meter IM over Phelps, who didn't even medal in that race, was a highlight. Love his fashion sense, but I do not care much for that mouth grill of his. The AT &T commercial he starred in...was MY favorite commercial throughout the entire Olympics....
"luck doesn't get you to the Olympic games...
you cant wish your way onto the podium...
you can't buy it...
or hope for it...
it's not enough to dream about it...
luck didn't get me to London...
I swam here!"
Just so you know Ryan, we are so glad you did!
The US gymnast Sam Mikulak...when he took a disappointing 5th place in the men's vault in the individual event competition...he was such a good sport about it. Gracious in defeat and happy for his competitors who beat him. We were impressed! He is a cutie patootie too. Could pass for Tom's twin, don't ya think?
South African Swimmer Chad Le Clos who beat his hero, Micheal Phelps, by a finger tip in the 200 meter butterfly. That was amazing and his reaction priceless. You couldn't help be happy for him!
Rounding out our top five was American swimmer Brenden Hansen. His interview after taking third place "the shiniest bronze medal you've ever seen" was honestly our favorite interview of the entire Olympics. He was so proud of himself, yet so humble and down to earth.
Unlike Jamaica's Usain Bolt who's head would blow if he thought anymore of himself.
He bugged!
Other highlights...
Ryan Seacrest :0 highlighting the story of friendship between training partners USA's Rupp and Britain's Mo Farah and how they took gold and silver in the 10, 000. Thrilling!
And then there is Missy Franklin! Gosh, what a genuine sweetheart she is.
There were other favorite "moments"for me... the men's British gymnastics team winning an unexpected medal, the fab 5 winning gold, as well as the infamous US beach volleyball duo. I loved it all! I have to say though that some of my favorites were watching the synchronized swimming and the rhythmic gymnastics. I enjoyed them just as much as the prime time sports. I wish there could have been more of it. Rhythmic gymnastics, predominately an Eastern European sport, {so I obviously haven't seen much of it} blew my mind. Flipping amazing!
