Valentine Sweet Shoppe
Finally getting around to posting my Valentine goodies..its been less than pleasant circumstances around here. Grandpa passed away late Valentine's night. My poor Emma had to wake up on Tuesday to that devasting news. And it was her 13th birthday! darn it. There is nothing like holding a sobbing child, let alone on her birthday. I don't recommend that folks.
We are SAD, emotionally drained, half functioning, sleep deprived, you name it. Just trying to come to terms with it all and what our new normal will be now.
On to some welcomed happy stuff...
I put together a miniature sweet shoppe for the girls {and for dad too} to celebrate the holiday.
We've had a little old cupboard kicking around, a family heirloom actually. My grandpa made it for my two oldest sisters in the late 50's. Cutest little thing but a tad beat up. It was brown and had vintage stickers on it, like Little Bo Peep. Too bad I didn't take a pic of it before Brie and I gave it a fresh coat of paint. My Hannah couldn't believe I'd go to so much trouble painting it for this one time purpose, {as its going right back to storage}, but I had a vision of it in all its Valentine glory and just had to use it. I had so much fun playing "cupid" and putting this together for the family I adore. These little tiny Valentine buckets I found for $1. They kill me. There are little tiny hooks to hang teacups on the second shelf so I was able to half hang them from there.
Added little embellishments to the candy jars..
Melted peppermint candies in the oven at 350 degrees for 5 minutes and then added melted white chocolate to make these heart candies.
My niece made these heart succors from peppermint sticks and white chocolate...how creative!
I spray painted a gold charger "pink". Added some pink dollies, a vintage picture and glitter glue. I didn't have time to add the Envirotex which makes it have a glossy look. Hopefully I'll find the time to do that finishing touch.
And one of my favorite things...I got an old jewelry box, covered it with vintage paper, ribbon and added some foo foo with cupcake wrappers, glitter glue and sparkles.
Look what is inside? Little miniature candy bars that I covered with vintage Valentine paper {free download}! How stink'in cute are they?Do you see that little arm on the left going in for the steal? die
We had heart shaped french toast for dinner{made with a touch of rum flavoring in the batter} Add a little pink strawberry milk and I'm good to go. Yummo!
We ate by candlelight. Too fun.
For FHE we heart attacked each other. We wrote down something nice about each member of the family.
And we watched a little Hart to Hart.
I'm amazed I was able to pull this off amid the dire situation going on with grandpa and daddy back and forth to and from the hospital. It was a little highlight in a day otherwise filled with worry and grief.
