Well friends...there's some
sad news coming from our house...
BYU football, (he took me to my first game on
Oct. 16, 1982 when I was ten years old and I've
been hooked every since!), ice cream, family
history, love for our country and the flag,
the bagpipes, healthy green drinks, beautiful
music, politics, the Andy Griffith Show,
My sweet dad passed away
at 7:02 p.m. on the evening of
Thursday, July 14th.
pretty awesome sight.}
Our lives kinda turned upside
down on the first of July
as my dad's health declined
to the point that he needed to be
put on hospice care in our home.
He was given 1-2 weeks to live.
We were on high alert 24/7
attending to his needs,
administering medicine
and making sure he was as
comfortable as possible.
As his primary caregiver it was two
of the most emotionally and
mentally exhausting weeks of my life,
yet also some of the sweetest
and most tender I've ever experienced.
I don't think anything prepares you
to watch someone you love
deteriorate daily and slowly die before
your eyes. I'm saddened to the core
that he is gone, yet so extremely happy
for him that he is free from
his cancer and his relentless struggles
of multiple sclerosis that he had symptoms
of for 52 years!!!
It's truly remarkable he lived
as long as he did.
He lived a wonderful 90 years!!!
THE VIEWING...
We also had a table full of favorite memories of grandpa from the grandkids.
It was really sweet.
He has 30 grandkids and 37 great-grandkids!
Quite the posterity I say.
We also paid tribute to his military service
and church service...
I also helped gather pictures for his
life tribute video...
I picked a few to share here....
my dad was an only child...
here he is with his mama.
I will never forget this moment...
not ever ever.
After the burial
we had a funeral luncheon
provided by the Relief Society of our
ward AND my home ward growing up.
There were tables and tables of delicious food...
We got showered at home from neighbors and friends with yummy dinners, treats,
breads, beautiful flowers, texts and thoughtful
gestures...especially from my girls!
Emma's memory of grandpa...
some of my friends gave
me this beautiful father daughter figurine
😥
We've honored my dad/gpa by ordering his
favorite sandwich at Capriotti's
and eating Iceberg shakes...
😂
My dad's favorite was
blueberry, pineapple and crushed pecans...
you should try it sometime!
My dad and I shared a love of journal writing, BYU football, (he took me to my first game on
Oct. 16, 1982 when I was ten years old and I've
been hooked every since!), ice cream, family
history, love for our country and the flag,
the bagpipes, healthy green drinks, beautiful
music, politics, the Andy Griffith Show,
and seafood! He was always so thankful for any
little thing I ever did for him.
I'm going to miss him dearly; however, the
thought of him walking or jogging along the
beach in heaven makes my heart smile.

Love you so much Dad!
{me and my dad 1980}Playing catch up here.....
Well July was a blur...{me and my dad 1980}Playing catch up here.....
4th of July!
On this day my dad was about 3 days
into his hospice care.
Even though he was
super duper weak he wanted to
get switched into his BLUE pajamas.
Put on his BLUE hat, sit at the edge of
the bed and wave the American flag.
So cute!
Both the Poppi and Briewere in the parade this year!
The girls went and saw the fireworks....
The girls went and saw the fireworks....
while the hubs and I watched from
our family room window
so we could be home
with the situation at hand.
I DO NOT KNOW what I would have
done without HIM through
this whole process.
The way he tenderly cared for my dad
in his last days...day in and day out,
was pretty special to witness.
**********
Random family stuff this month...
Swimming with the cousins!
Hannah is always doing something fun....
😂
In dog life....
I think sweet Mr. Darcy knew something was
going down during this whole process of my
dad dying.
Especially on this particular day.
He'd come lay on my lap.
All 80 lbs of him!
Kate and I would take turns with some of my siblings
sleeping in my parent's office
at night so we would be close to my
parent's bedroom.
Guess who would join us?
This one kills me.
You can bet who wanted the bacon from
the sandwich the hubs made and brought to me!
The whole summer pretty much a bust!
So hoping for brighter days ahead.
