Boy, have we been on a Jane Austen kick of late.I think Kyleigh, Emmsie and I are some of her biggest fans!
July 18th just happens to be the Anniversary of her death... 200 years ago!
I read the greatest article this week from the Deseret News in honor of that.
The writer of the article ranked the movies, adapted from her novels,
in order of preference.
Made me want to do the same...π
So here are my very fav to least fav of Jane Austen...
even though I love them all!
#1 SENSE & SENSIBILITY
{My favorite movie. period.}
both versions I freak'in love.
Did you know Emma Thompson not only starred in the 1995 version
but wrote the Oscar winning script?
#2 PRIDE & PREJUDICE
I π π π P&P!!!
I do like this 2 hr version much much better than the 6 hr. tho.
Mr. Darcy's friend Bingley in this movie...gosh!
hilarious dude
he's one of our favorite Austen characters!
#3 favorite, which I'm currently obsessed with-as we've watched both versions this week..
goes to PERSUASION ...
Anne Elliot
{next to Elinor in Sense & Sensibility}
is probably my favorite Austen heroine.
AND Captain Wentworth..goodness me... he's one of my fav men of Austen,
along side Edward Ferrars, Colonel Brandon, Mr. Knightly, and of course Darcy!
π
Both these versions of Persuasion I adore,
but slightly lean towards the newer 2007 BBC version
...But gosh, the letter scene at the end of the old one
with Ciaran Hinds & Amanda Root..
sweet romance doesn't get much better than that!!!!
#4 There are three movie versions of EMMA
{that I know of and seen}...
the more recent BBC version is very delightful,
but this older 1996 one with Gwyneth is my favorite!
#5 Every time I watch NORTHANGER ABBEY I like it better than I thought I did.
JJ Field, who we love as Mr. Darcy in the movie "Austenland"..
plays Henry Tilney, Catherine's love interest at the Abbey.
He's just sweet and adorable!
#6 MANSFIELD PARK...my least favorite Austen story-line, or least watched anyway,
but nonetheless still very enjoyable! In this version of Mansfield Park, Fanny's cousin Edmund-played by Jonny Lee Miller-is a cutie patootie! He also plays Mr. Knightly in "Emma"... BBC's version.
and there you have it, the best of Austen in my humble opinion.
***
A thousand times over...
kuddos to Jane for providing us hours of entertainment bliss!
***
And in tribute to the "Men of Austen" you gotta watch this video montage...
cracks us up!!!
and lastly, a favorite quote for the week...in honor of Jane π
