Kyleigh in Korea
mission week 75
Sometimes things don't turn out the way we want....and that's okay!!!
My story for this week happened last Monday. We had set up a dinner appointment with a potential investigator who is Chinese. She is studying here in Korea and learning Korean. When we met her on the street we shared the gospel with her a little bit and we made an appointment to see if she had more interest. We went to Busan University and waited at the subway station for her. She was a couple minutes late so we called her and she sounds frantic saying the she forgot, but will be there soon. (this is all in Korean, foreigners from different countries trying to speak Korean...its pretty hilarious) About 15 minutes later she calls and says to come outside.. so we stay on the phone and she is waving her hand in the air trying to find us. We ran over to her and she walks right past us. So we yell at her again and she turns around super confused...she was expecting someone else! Well, if that wasn't awkward enough she got super defensive and was like I DO NOT BELIEVE IN JESUS CHRIST. So we decided to let her go her way and we walked away frustrated and upset. My comp and I were like what can we do to find success?....We both had the impression to head back home. We hopped back on the subway and I spotted a girl that I wanted to talk to, but we didn't get to sit by her. Luckily enough we got off at the same stop. So we said hello and found out that she is from Kazakhstan, but she knows Korean and English. Super cute girl! We told her we were missionaries and that we believed in Jesus. She got super excited and told us her story. She comes from a Muslim back ground, converted in high school to Christianity (she is 22), but no one in her family knows because it is super dangerous. In high school she just had this feeling that there was something more to life...she found a church and has loved Jesus ever since. Listening to her story made me take a look at my own faith, because this girl shines with her own faith. She loves Jesus so much that she took the risk to become Christian. She doesn't let the danger get to her and she trusts that Jesus will help her. I felt blessed and thankful for the opportunity that we have of growing up with freedom of religion and that we have the gospel. I also realized that if we had met with that Chinese girl we would have missed the opportunity to met this other girl, Akerike. Things don't always turn out the way we want, but God sees the big picture and he reminded me of that that night. I am thankful for the miracles I see in my life and in others every day!
I love Jesus :)
