Life!
Can I just start by saying that I am not a fan of being over scheduled. A clear calendar, other than our normal schedule, is more my style. I should say our style. All of us here just like to be HOME and not be super busy.{I don't even like that word}
Other than Mondays and Wednesdays we don't have a ton going on after school, and or at nights the rest of the week. Most of our weeks are pretty manageable. And I am so thankful. I think our society is so programed to be constantly on the go and to always do and be more. I strongly disagree. My mantra is take more time to just be. BE STILL. Learn to say NO, learn to simplify where you can. Save your energy for what really brings you joy and satisfaction. For me its my family and my faith. Period. Oh and maybe an occasional celebration! ;) and some time with friends. I feel sorry for kids and their mothers that are involved in so many things that they are run ragged to the bone. Its not a healthy way to live.
Of course we all have our weeks that are busier than others, but in my book it should be the exception and not the rule. The reason I bring this up is because we just had one of those doozie weeks, or more like 10 days, where it was just one thing after another!
It was a tad bit irritating.
Events that we usually don't even have on a regular week... were happening right and left. And of course it all fell on the same week! Baffling to me why this happens like it does.
Can we not spread the fun?
It's just life, I know, but whoa not the kind of life I constantly want to lead week in and week out.
Here were a few of the extra things that went on besides our normal stuff... celebrating a holiday, attending a baptism, a viewing, wedding reception, cupcake decorating, two birthday celebrations, poster making, a banquet, choir concert, eye appointment, drill showcase, chaperoned a dance, and attended dance observation for 2 girls. Our kids do one, maybe two {if its school related} extra curricular activities. It's not overwhelming when you are dealing with just one thing but for whatever reason Kyleigh's two things, which are totally non related...{ones a time hogger, the other not so much} tend to have their huge events happen on the same week.
Bugs!
When you add the end of term homework and deadlines looming overhead...it becomes a bit much. We had End of Drill year banquet one night, the End of Year show the next, and then the next day was the MAG dance and all that entails.
Hilarious people!
I took three trips to Layton for the ballgown that she needed for Friday night's event as well as searching costume shops for a Wendy costume for the dance. We finally resorted to renting one from Hale Center Theatre. It took three trips to their warehouse somewhere out in the boon dog West before it was all said and done. Add 3 people dying in our ward in a week! {actually one of those was a former member, but it still felt like a ward member}. Out of those three deaths, we only had one funeral luncheon {phew!} But funny thing is... we haven't had a funeral luncheon in months!! OF ALL THE WEEKS, of course it would be THIS one. haha.
One night we had funeral clean up going on the same time we had set up going on for the next night's Relief Society Social. Good times!
Here's our week in pictures....
The Relief Society Birthday party...
My friend was in charge of decorating the cupcakes for the Relief Society's birthday. She's a Young Women's advisor so she enlisted the help of a few of the YW girls to help with the time consuming task of cutting out fondant flowers to adorn the cupcakes. That would be my Emma and Hannah who spent a few hours both on Monday and Tuesday helping. I knocked out a few leaves but that was about all I had time for. They turned out so cute though!
The Relief Society at its best. My committee had to find a way to refrigerate 60 chicken salad sandwiches in the church's refrigerator without smashing them all...Way to go ladies!
The cutest Vintage wedding reception I've ever seen!
My Mama's 81st birthday
My sisters and I took her out to lunch on her special day!
Hannah's choir concert at the junior high...
we blitzed from that over to the high school for Kyleigh's Drill Banquet
Kyleigh was awarded best smile on the team! Her orthodontic work paid off. haha.
End of Year Drill Show
Loved the dress we found even though she wasn't in it for long....they did a lot of costume changes throughout the night...
Dad escorting her....
The team!
The Junior aged girls with their dads...
Kyleigh and 14 of her teammates were recognized both nights for making Academic All Region. So impressive!
The girls danced their 5 routines from the year {Some of these girls hardly danced all year because they didn't make the cut for the individual routine tryouts. Kyleigh was lucky enough to make four out of the five} plus two new ones that they learned for the show..one was with guy partners...The Spartonian Men. Here she is practicing with her partner.
Some Spartonian Love from the sisters!
The poster I made for Kyleigh to display.
All the team's posters. So fun to look at!
Awesome friends came to support Kyleigh...
A job well done! Can not believe the drill year is over. There were times where this day couldn't have come soon enough. She's got some big decisions to make as tryouts are in two weeks. It will be interesting to see if she decides to put herself through Hell again.
Drill is a love hate relationship. Just say'in.
A sneak peak into her Wendy costume for MAG. The dance deserves a post all of its own so more on that later!
There is hardly anything going on this week and I'm lov'in it!
