First Day of School!
What a momentous day for Kyleigh. She started High School! gulp. Can it really be so? High School is so different now...they have A and B days, where they have four classes a day, 1st lunch, 2nd lunch, plus two extended learning periods... so confusing...{for the mom anyway}
Here she is on registration day a week and a half ago where they got their schedules, books, yearbook pictures taken and lockers. She is able to locker right by her best friend! We walked the halls looking for her classrooms so she wouldn't get lost on the first day...they have totally remodeled the High School since I was there so I was no help.
A few days later we got to wander the halls for a second time after a team tennis meeting. Fun to get a glimpse of her new world and where she will be hanging every school day...
and btw, do you know how much it costs to have your kids go to high school these days? A little shocking to a first time parent of a high schooler. Unbelievable!
{Who knew public education cost so much?}
It was about $500 between the oldest two to get them registered for school. {the bulk of it in Kyleigh's court} And that doesn't include everyday school supplies or school clothes. Kyleigh's yearbook alone cost $50 bucks! What the? Found that kind of funny. sort of.
Emma 8th Grade
Emma has one of her best friends in all 7 of her classes. They have the exact same schedule. She lucked out!
Walking to the bus....
Love these bags that they are using instead of backpacks...grandma got them either really cheap or free at DSW and surprised them when they got back from camp this summer. I was even borrowing one for a time, as I'm still trying to find a purse I want to purchase to replace my purple one that is now gone bye bye.
Meeting up with neighbor girls...
Running for the bus....
I hear this scene happens quite a bit....cracks me up!
I in my p.j.s and my friend in her apron, made a scramble to the bus stop as well. My friend was in the process of making crepes for our traditional "first day of school" breakfast with the moms in the neighborhood. We usually go out but she cooked for the 12+ of us....so sweet!
We are missing all the 7th graders in the neighborhood who will be joining the older girls on the bus tomorrow...
Hannah 6th grade
Brielle 1st Grade
Kate
who gets to stay at home with mommy all day
Hannah on the playground with her best friend...
so blazing hot out today...doesn't make for good pictures
Brie with some classmates...
her best friend is in the other class...boo
her best friend is in the other class...boo
I caught this candid pic of Brie biting her nails as she was waiting in line....for days she has been so nervous for school to start... Or in her words 'terrified'! Poor thing!...Daddy gave them all a father's blessing the night before school started. Its a tradition. I'm sure that helped but its still kind of scary making that transition of going to school all day.
When Hannah and Brie walked out the front door this morning they found that the magic school bus {ya know the one that Ms. Frizzle drives?} had dropped off a surprise....a special after school treat to open when they got home....something to look forward too. {my third ingredient for happiness}
After school the girls ate their cookies and milk while telling me all about their day. Although Kyleigh's tell all was in the car on her way to tennis practice.. I loved LOVED hearing all about it. every detail.
One of my favorite quotes happens to say "Making the decision to have a child.....its momentous. It is to decide forever to have your heart go walking around outside your body." Elizabeth Stone
My heart is always in 5 different places but especially on milestone days like today.....I so wish I could be a bug on the wall..to be where they are...even if its just for a moment, to get a peek...
I so love being a mom! Its the best job. ever!
RECAP: All survived. Some just barely. {that would be Emma} My girlfriend was here giving haircuts tonight and she stated that Jr. High is the armpit of your life. Emma would agree. Scratched eyeball, allergy problems, and stupid, scary people don't help, on top of the orange construction style vests that have to be worn for hall passes. {She swears she's never getting a hall pass} and a math class where she is one of four girls amongst 26 boys. no kidd'in. Hannah enjoyed her day. She's always the one who is the most excited to go back. Brie managed well also {Yeah!}, until the end of the school day when there was confusion with how she was getting home which resulted in a meltdown...on our way home in the car.. Kyleigh's day was OKAY, although she's looking forward to tomorrow's classes even more than todays.
Best part was when the girls came home. This melted my heart when Kate met Emma walking home from the bus....
Look how cute your girls are! I can't believe how big they are getting. We're lucky to have so many fun kids in the neighborhood.
