4th Year Overnighter- We took the young women (the fifteen year olds) from our Stake on an overnighter to complete their camp certification. We went to Flaming Gorge to run the Green River. Out of the 22 girls that age in our Stake, only ten could make the trip with us. Although our numbers were few we had a blast!
Here we are hang'in out waiting for our rafts
The girls played in the water to cool off....
Some laid out...
One even read....
I had to take a picture of K with this book. She had her nose in it any chance she got throughout the whole trip. It was partially my fault, as I was the one that lent it to her to read on the four hour drive to get to Flaming Gorge. Needless to say, she was hooked! I can't wait to get my hands on it to read it myself. I've heard from numerous of sources that it is so good. It is called Twilight, the first in a series by author Stephanie Myers.
Row Row Row your boat.....Here is one of our three rafts float'in down the river...Anytime our rafts got close to each other there was a massive water fight. The water fights were a definite highlight of the trip for sure!
The weather was gorgeous and the scenery beautiful!
It was so fun for me to have my husband come along. Sleeping in a small pop up tent together was a first. It was cozy and quite humorous!
We only had one girl from our raft that went overboard... I was glad it wasn't me!
Here we are after the three hour trip down the river.... We were cold, tired and hungry but still smiling.
Our campsite that we stayed at overnight was lovely except for this thing pictured below. This should have had a scratch 'n sniff warning before entering. Holy Cow, the outhouse was disgusting! After using it once or twice (out of desperation).....many resorted to either going in the woods or being drove into town by their husband (which would be me!) to use the convenience store restroom. It made me sooooooooo grateful for the new flush toilets we had at girl's camp.
We told ghost stories around the campfire that night and had some goofy contests. One being, how many pieces of bubble gum can you fit in your mouth? (Thus the reason for the pink glob oozing from these girl's mouths) I think the record was like 18!
The next day we took the girls rock/cliff jumping. This is me jumping off a fifteen foot rock. It was so dang scary yet fun at the same time.
Here we are doing a little water ballet....
The girls and two leaders swam across the lake to this cliff (at least 30 feet high)....
and many of them jumped off!!!! They were so brave to even attempt this. It was way cool to watch them conquer their fears as it took some of the girls well over 30 + minutes to muster up enough courage to jump.
This was Sam, our first jumper, about half way down!
The Youth are fabulous and I enjoy spending time with them...it's a great way to stay young at heart!

Can I come next year? The rafting trip looks like so much fun! The river is so blue and I can't believe you jumped off the cliff. Way to go!
ReplyDeleteP.S. I've started reading Twilight (thanks to you) and I'm hooked!
Thinking of you as we are staying on the French side of St. Maarten this week.
ReplyDeleteWhat great photos! Glad I landed on your blog after Candace's today. Have to mention Il Divo. My daughter sent me their CD for my birthday and it always brings a lump to my throat. I love their singing. Their voices soar. What talent.
ReplyDeleteYou might be interested in checking out the contest on my blog. It's called "Spotlight the Youth" and the closing date is August 31st. Not too many entries so far. Some great prizes. Why not give it a whirl?
