Soccer Girl- I have to pay tribute to Hannah, our soccer girl, since the soccer season officially ended today. She is a good little runner and it's been great fun watching her play. One of the fun things about soccer is seeing and chatting with the other soccer moms. I will miss that.
Personal Shopper- Kyleigh left for a movie and sleepover last night and left me with the task of finding a birthday present for a friend's party that she would be attending today. What do you get a pre-teen for her birthday???? Some mom's may fret with that challenge but not me. I love to pick out gifts. She knows that, but I am still quite pleased that she trusts me enough to pick something out for a friend without her approval. Even Kyleigh's best friend, who was also going to the party, asked if I could pick something out for the both of them to give and she would pay me back. Apparently she thinks I pick out good gifts. Gee, I'd never miss out on being a personal shopper for anyone. BTW, I just think that would be the funnest job ever! Get paid to shop!!! HELLO! Anyhow, I always find what I need at Claires for these pre-teen gifts. I found the cutest zebra print bag, wrapped a big black bow on it and filled it with black and white jewelry...earrings, necklace, bracelets, hair accessories and a treat, black (it had to color coordinate of course) licorice. They played the funnest game at this party, there were 14 girls and they split up into two teams and went on a Bigger or Better Scavenger Hunt. Kyleigh had a blast and it brought back a memory or two of my scavenger hunt days as a youth. I loved those darn things. (In fact one of my all time favorite TV shows is the AMAZING RACE because basically all that is is watching one huge scavenger hunt around the world.) Kyleigh's team started out with a bobby pin and after going to ten or so houses, asking the neighbors if they had anything bigger or better than the item they had in hand...they ended up with two stuffed animals, a bike and a huge, old barbecue grill. We laughed and laughed as she explained how she and her friends had to traunch back through the neighborhood to get back to the birthday girl's house a quarter of a mile away lugging all this stuff. I wish I had a picture of that!
QUOTE OF THE DAY-As it is our friend's son's missionary farewell and get-together tomorrow I was on the hunt for a missionary gift today. As I entered the bookstore I met the cutest elderly woman. Our conversation went from talking about her cookbook, to my summery skirt, to the "brown" skirt that she had found for her at the mall, how "brown" is one of my favorite colors, and then to my "brown" eyes. She commented that they really weren't brown after all, that they were more of an amber color and the best part of all was get this, she said THAT THEY WERE BEDROOM EYES!!!! I busted out laughing..... for several reasons. First, I've never considered my eyes were anything but plain "brown". Second, I've never heard that expression before and third, it was such a sultry comment coming from someone of her age that it took me a bit by surprise. From what I knew about the woman, granted I had just met her, it seemed so uncharacteristic of her to say anything like that but hey what do I know? The woman has NINE children.... so she must of had or has a pair of bedroom eyes herself! I couldn't wait to go home and tell Jaren he had a wife with bedroom eyes. LOL... Elderly people are a riot! I've always had a soft spot for them in my heart. Even more so now that my parents have hit the ranks of the elderly. Today's encounter reaffirmed my affection for the old folk and left me grateful that we are surrounded by so many in our ward and that I have the privilege to speak to many elderly individuals with my consulting job.
So I couldn't help but post the Quote of the day: "You have bedroom eyes".... by my new found elderly friend.
Is it bad that I would enjoy getting a gift meant for a pre-teen girl. But then again you DO give great gifts. And I DO love me a great animal print.
ReplyDeleteAlso, I need some help in the gift giving department myself this weekend. We're going to the Christening of two of our friend's children. The girl is no problem. I'm pretty good with frou frou, and whipped her up some accessories for the special day. What do I get the boy?
That is such a good question. I'm in need of a baby boy gift too. I don't think you can ever go wrong with giving baby einstein stuff or children's books as baby gifts. When I figure out what I'm doing for my gift I'll try and post.
